A University of California researcher says that the findings of a new study provide proof that zinc-based Zicam nasal products, which were recalled last year, may cause some people to lose their sense of smell. The research was published in this month?s issue of the medical journal Archives of Otolaryngology ? Head & Neck Surgery. Dr. Terence M. Davidson, who has served as an expert witness in litigation involving zinc nasal gels, authored the study which is the first to find a causal link between Zicam and loss of smell, a condition known as anosmia

Chemtura Corp., a bankrupt chemical maker, won dismissal of a $9 billion claim from a group that sought damages for infertility and other health problems linked to a flame retardant. U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Robert Gerber in Manhattan said in court April 8th that the nonprofit public-interest group, Council for Education and Research on Toxics, or CERT, lacks standing to bring a claim in the case because it isn?t a creditor, and it made the claim too late.
